Bio
Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1955, Axinn taught at Temple University,
Philadelphia for 45 years. Chaired the department for fifteen years, and retired
as Emeritus Professor in 1992. Two years had been spent teaching Philosophy
in Japan. Since then he has been involved with the Philosophy Department of
the University of South Florida, Tampa, currently as Courtesy Professor. In
1985 he was President of the American Society for Value Inquiry. He has published
over forty articles, and various book reviews. Also three books: A Moral
Military,(used at West Point for a period), The Logic of Hope: Extensions of
Kant ' s View of Religion, and co-edited Autonomy and Community: Readings
in Contemporary Kantian Social Philosophy. A revised edition of A
Moral Military (2009),
and Sacrifice and Value: a Kantian Interpretation, due in October
2010. He
has lectured at institutions in England, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Taiwan,
South Korea, Japan, and the USA. Current work is on Kant's view of value,
and Sismondi.
